Steps to Smoother Kissable Lips for Valentine's Day

Three Steps to Smooth Skin and Kissable Lips, Just in Time for Valentine’s Day

Take the stress out of prepping for your romantic night out with three easy steps to kissable lips and healthy smooth skin. Below are the tips that top celebrity makeup artists and Dermalogica’s Director of Global Education, Annet King swear by that will leave him stopped in his tracks without you breaking a sweat.

Step 1: Get clean!

King recommends starting with a bath rather than a shower. “Bathing has multiple benefits and when you add in a great soak treatment like exfoliating mineral salts and essential oils, you can just lie there and let the ingredients do all the work!” Try Dermalogica’s Hydro-Active Mineral Salts and Exfoliating Body Scrub for added exfoliation.

Don’t forget your face – achieve that clean, youthful glow by cleansing and exfoliating. Take a tip from ‘No Strings Attached’ makeup artist Tracy Levy and try Special Cleansing Gel and Daily Microfoliant. The soap-free formula in Special Cleansing Gel washes away impurities without stripping or drying skin, and Daily Microfoliant smoothes and brightens skin with a unique rice-based powder. Whether or not your V-Day will be as complicated as Adam and Emma’s relationship (played by Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman), fortunately with these easy steps, taking care of your skin doesn’t have to be.

Step 2: Make sure skin is soft and touchable.

Whether you’re planning a big date night out or just cuddling up at home watching your favorite RomCom movie, soft, smooth skin is a must. After a nice exfoliating bath, lather on a moisturizer immediately, concentrating on areas of extra dryness, like elbows, knees and heels. Dermalogica’s UltraRich Body Cream contains hyaluronic acid which reconditions thirsty skin and leaves it with a silky, irresistible feel. Makeup artist Stacy Skinner always uses UltraRich Body Cream to hydrate her country-superstar clients, The Dixie Chicks and Court Yard Hounds.

Step 3: Prepare to pucker up!

Valentine’s Day is all about showing affection to your loved ones. To prepare your lips for a day full of kisses, start with Dermalogica’s Renewal Lip Complex. This long-lasting, moisturizing lip treatment will minimize contour lines and signs of aging with its collagen-stimulating ingredients. Celebrity makeup artist Kimberley Bosso (clients include Zac Efron, Marissa Tomei, Matt Damon, Taryn Manning and the Jonas Brothers), “loves” Renewal Lip Complex for herself and for the actors she works with.

Next up? The perfect lip color to match your skin tone.

Halle Berry’s makeup artist, Norma Hill-Patton, offers a few suggestions. “When choosing a lip color, it is first useful to determine what tone your skin is,” said Hill-Patton. “Find some items that are cool tones, like mauves and pinks, and also some that are warm tones, like oranges, yellows and browns, and hold each in turn up to your face. You will be able to see which colors enhance your skin tone best.”

Makeup artist Stephanie Massie, who works on ABC’s Emmy-winning comedy Modern Family, suggests pink shades for V-Day and the upcoming spring season. “The colors for spring seem to range from a pale pink to a rosier pink, and all the way up to a vampy berry!”
