LUSH Hottie Massage Bar Review

Wow I can't believe how silly I am. I've never used a "massage bar" so I guess I should have read the instructions on the Lush Hottie Massage Bar. (You'll understand, just keep reading) Basically this looks like a bar of soap, one side is flat and the other has bumps all over it. (Obviously the side you use to "massage") It is infused with black pepper oil, ginger and vanilla. It is used to help relieve sore muscles and to get the circulation going back into your body.

So because I was so excited to use this, I didn't read the instructions, so let this be a lesson to you. ALWAYS read how to use something if you haven't used that specific product before. First impression was the smell was a bit strong for me. It smells a little bit like vanilla, but the other notes I couldn't quite put my finger on.

Here are the instructions:

Massage bars serve double-duty as luxurious massage oil or after-shower body moisturizer. Glide the massage bar directly over dry skin; it will melt upon contact. Massage or rub the oils into the skin. As massage bars are made with natural butters and oils, take care to ensure they absorb completely before putting on your best silk pj's. Massage bars melt at body temperature, so be sure to keep yours somewhere cool, dry and out of direct sunlight.

So instead of reading the above, I used this as a soap and rubbed it with water first. Big mistake. It felt incredibly greasy and left horrible marks and stains on the shower and bathtub that had to be scrubbed off. I thought, "Wow this is a BAD soap" I couldn't believe LUSH would put out such a product. Then while reading through their website, I realized I had used the massage bar all wrong. You shouldn't be using the bar in the shower or bath, it should be used dry as a massager. No wonder my skin was left so greasy. I felt sooo dumb.

So in conclusion, I'm sure this is a fabulous product, but I wouldn't know because I didn't use it correctly. Keep in mind, people LOVE the Hottie Massage Bar. I usually try to stay away from other beauty blog reviews so I can have an open mind, but I've heard all good about this one. It's flying off the shelves at Lush! So I'm sorry to all my readers, I have failed you. Let this be a lesson to us all, read the instructions on all beauty products. And as for the massage bar, I will be purchasing a few more so I can give you a full breakdown of how it works, and if it works as intended. I think I'll be purchasing a different scent though, Vanilla is not really one of my favorites. You can purchase Lush Massage bars for $8.95 at
