John Frieda Sheer Blonde Collection Review

John Frieda's Sheer Blonde Collection is something I've been waiting for a long time. A little bit of background. I'm a natural brunette. And when I say brunette I mean black as night hair. Every couple months I dye my hair the color it is now, which is a bright blonde. It's hard to keep up with, and I find that no matter what shampoo/conditioner I use, my blonde starts to fade rather quickly. Yes there are products out there that keep your blonde more radiant and bright, but nothing like this. Till now!

John Frieda Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Lightening Shampoo gradually lightens natural, colour-treated and highlighted blonde hair. With citurs extract and chamomile, the gentle formula improves the healthy look of your hair by tightening the cuticle and strengthening the shaft. The shampoo is ammonia and peroxide-free so is gentle enough for daily use

So it's been about a month since I've been using the shampoo, conditioner and spray, and I thought it was due time to share some results! Like I said before, with my usual washing of my hair, my blonde color would turn a bit brassy and yellowish.

Unfortunately this is not an "instant" fix to your hair. You have to make sure you use it at least every other day, and use a good portion of it. I noticed using the shampoo and conditioner combined with the lightning spray gave me more noticable blonde. I can simply recommend this for current blondes who are looking to create touch ups to their blondeness. This would also be great for brunettes looking to add a bit of blonde highlight to their hair, although I wouldn't be sure of the results because my hair is already blonde. But I did do some research, and read some people enjoy this for that extra brightening.

When it's all said and done, I can't say for sure I would purchase this again, but I would purchase the Controlled Lightening Spray Versatile, patent-pending formula with citrus and chamomile works with styling heat to gradually lighten and brighten for a natural-looking, blonder blonde. Contains thermo-protectant. Patent-pending technology combines fixative and conditioning polymers that retain hydrogen peroxide, allowing for control of lightening. Visibly lightens in 3-5 uses. I like to spray this in my hair before I blow dry my hair out. I guess it's part of my routine so I don't forget to use it.

So with the spray you're getting quicker results, and in one bottle vs the two. (shampoo and conditioner) It's also good for a day in the sun or out on the beach. Maybe even when you're by the pool and you want that extra blonde.

Sorry I couldn't get a better picture, but I used the spray mostly on the front of my hair vs the back. I hope you can tell from the pic that my hair is visibly more blonde in the front. I'm hoping when my roots start to show through, the spray, (with the shampoo and conditioner combined) will help with my black roots. (I will update this post!)

The shampoo/conditioner was used throughout my hair as well. You can purchase the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Collection at your local drugstore or wherever John Frieda is sold nearest you.

  1. I'm confused with what you said.. " I woudn't use this if you're a brunette looking to just put more blonde in your hair. I can simply recommend this for current blondes who are looking to create touch ups to their blondeness"

Does this mean that you wouldn't recommended this for a subtle brightening effect? I have dark blonde hair naturally, and I don't want to use a harsh perm color because my hair is fine and sometimes fragile. I would, however, like a brightening boost.

  2. After doing more research I found out yes this is ok and good for brunettes. I'm sorry for the wrong information. Although I can't personally tell you how great it would work or not. But the spray might look pretty fabulous! I'd love to know your results!
