We’ve all been there – we’ve looked in the mirror and found those dreaded signs of ageing. Cue fear and a feeling in the pit of the stomach that makes us want to vomit. Although ageing is a part of life, it is one that we want to avoid for as long as possible. Some people might find that vain and narcissistic, but for others, it is a great way to boost self-esteem and feel confident. I might be the only one, but today I am going to promote cosmetic surgery for those reasons.
In my mind, there is no doubt that cosmetic surgery works. I assumed that most people thought the same way until I spoke to a few of my friends. It turns out that some people think the surgery doesn’t even work. Well, the facts are there for everyone to see. Yes, we have all seen the horror stories that make us want to bring our lunch back up. But, they are few and far between. For the most part, we will look better than we could ever wish.
Another great benefit that I think we all like the thought of is that cosmetic surgery is quick as well as effective. A round of botox only takes a couple of hours for the chemicals to take hold and tighten the skin. We can use as many pharmaceuticals as we want, but we will never see the same results in the same timeframe.
The majority of procedures also last for a long time. Whether we like to admit it or not, we want to battle wrinkles and saggy skin as much as possible. And, with cosmetic surgery it is possible. In fact, it is not only possible but it possible well into the future. Whether you want to go ‘under the knife’ or try the basic procedures, they all have long lasting effects.
The Risks Are Minimal
I don’t mean to trivialize any form of surgery because there is a risk with every operation we have. But, that is the point. The majority of us wouldn’t think twice about the risks of surgery because they are minimal for very unlikely. Yes, we could have a reaction to the anesthetic or get an infection during the procedure, yet they hardly happen. I am not saying we should assume there are no risks because that would be stupid. But, I am saying that they are not as dire as some people like to make out.
We often look at cosmetic surgery and wonder about the physical implications, but what about the social ones? There is no doubt that some of us don’t like the way we look, and no amount of moisturizer is going to make a difference. The only thing that will make a difference is a dramatic change. If that procedure makes us a better person, there is no reason to dismiss it out of hand.
Regardless of our agenda, the benefits of cosmetic surgery are obvious. We just need to make sure we are comfortable with the negatives before we proceed.
